State
law mandates that certain screenings must be offered in school
each year.
Upcoming screenings:
HEALTH OFFICE NOTICE
SCREENINGS NOTIFICATION
February 2010
The week following vacation, 2/22 – 2/26,
the health office will be conducting the annual screenings for
Vision, Height and Weight, and scoliosis during PE classes.
Vision and height and weight Screenings will
be done privately in the Health Office by the Nurses, Mrs.
McInerney RN or Mrs. Lehman RN. The scoliosis screenings are
conducted privately in the individual locker rooms by the
nurses. Results are kept strictly confidential.
Specific screenings will done according to
grades as mandated by the Department of Public Health.
The screenings are as follows:
Grade 7: scoliosis, vision, and height and
weight (BMI result to be mailed home separately)
Grade 8: scoliosis
Grade 9: scoliosis
Grade 10: vision, and height and weight(BMI
result to be mailed home separately)
To be exempted from the mandated screenings
a note from your child’s personal physician that the screenings
have been completed in their office must be sent in to the
health office before the screenings are to be done.

Students
are examined in private by the school nurse. Girls must wear a bathing suit top or a
sports bra. For all
screenings,
parents will be notified by letter
if further evaluation is recommended.

TB
screening is only recommended for high risk students per
physician’s discretion( students entering from Latin
America, Africa, Asia (except Japan), Eastern Europe and
Russia, the Middle East are considered high risk and should
receive baseline Mantoux tests prior to entering Hadley Public
schools.
All
students are required by state law to participate in the
screenings- if you would like to request that your child be exempt
from screenings, a written physician’s note must be provided
stating that the child does not require the screening.
